Renewed Cooperation Restores Peace, Stability in Ado-Odo/Ota as Chairman Meets Council’s Demands

Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State — November 1, 2025

A potential political crisis in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Ogun State, was averted following the decision of the Legislative Council to lift the suspension earlier imposed on the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, barely 24 hours after it was announced.

The swift resolution came after the intervention of prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who stepped in to mediate between the Executive and Legislative arms of the council and restore normalcy.

The council had, on October 30, 2025, suspended the chairman over allegations of failing to present income and expenditure reports despite repeated requests. However, following a peace meeting convened by party stakeholders, Alhaji Wasiu complied with the council’s key demand by submitting the required financial report and reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability.

Confirming the development, Leader of the House, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, ACA, said the decision to lift the suspension was reached after careful deliberation and in the overall interest of peace and progress in the local government.

“This decision is taken in the overall interest of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government,” he stated. “Through renewed cooperation, we can deliver the dividends of democracy and restore public confidence in grassroots governance.”

The peace initiative was brokered by top APC stakeholders, including the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and the Member representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Hon. Tunji Akinosi. Others who played key roles in the reconciliation include Hon. Sessan Fagbayi (Commissioner for Culture and Tourism), Chief Aiyedogbon, Hon. Lai Taiwo, Hon. Kazeem Salako, and the APC Local Government Chairman, Hon. Jimoh Akeran.

Political observers and residents have lauded the intervention, describing it as a triumph of dialogue over discord. Many residents, however, criticized the initial suspension as hasty and politically motivated, urging both arms of the council to focus on governance rather than internal disputes.

With the suspension lifted, Alhaji Wasiu is expected to resume his duties immediately and strengthen collaboration with the Legislative Council to deliver developmental projects and social services to the people.

The development has been widely hailed as a victory for peace, stability, and good governance in Ado-Odo/Ota, highlighting the importance of dialogue and unity in resolving political disagreements at the grassroots level.
