Ondo Police Bust Illegal Clinic, Arrest Quack Doctor

‎The Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Nasiru Idris for operating an illegal clinic at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

‎According to the command, Mr Nasiru (25) was dispensing medical services without being a registered professional.

‎

‎The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by Command’s Surveillance Team, during which the suspect, was apprehended.

‎

‎Police said on Sunday that a search of his clinic led to the recovery of various medical items, including packs of injection needles, medical drips, bandages, and assorted medical kits.

‎

‎”Subsequently, a thorough search of his residence was conducted with a duly signed search warrant, during which used injection bottles, needles, and syringes were also recovered,” the police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said on Sunday.

‎”Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is not a registered medical practitioner, confirming that the clinic was being operated illegally.

‎

‎”He has since made useful statements while in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

‎

‎He further said the arrest was part of the command’s intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the State.

‎

‎Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, emphasised the importance of intelligence-led policing in disrupting criminal activities.

‎

‎He reassured residents of the command’s ’s unwavering resolve to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.

‎

‎He advised residents of Ondo State to exercise caution when seeking medical services and to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to medical quacks.

‎

‎Although the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), had called on security agencies to help fight quackery in the medical profession, not much had been done in this sector.

‎

‎However in December 2022, the Ondo State Police Command apprehended a fake medical doctor after he performed surgical operations on patients.

‎

‎The suspect, Rabiu Olalekan, was allegedly parading himself as a medical doctor in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state before his arrest.

‎

‎Mr Olalekan was alleged to have paraded himself as a medical doctor of Iremide Private Hospital, Orita Ojo before he was arrested by team of Special Intervention Squad.

His arrest followed a report of unprofessionalism filed against him.

‎

‎He had performed caesarean section on a pregnant woman (name withheld) who was later rushed to Mother and Child Hospital due to excessive bleeding from her private parts.

‎

‎It was discovered that the self-acclaimed doctor stitched her womb and the urinary tract together.

‎

‎Further investigation revealed that Mr Olalekan was not a medical doctor but attended School of Health Technology, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where he studied Community Health Extension Work but has been deceiving people that he is a medical doctor.
