ABIODUN COMMISSIONS STALLS, OTHERS AT OLUGBO MARKET

 In his drive to ensure infrastructural development at the grassroots, Ogun State   Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has commissioned two blocks of open stalls, lock-up stores, and a solar-powered borehole, at Olugbo Market in Odeda Local Government Area of the State.


The facilities built by the State government in collaboration with the Federal Government and International Fund for Agricultural Development ( IFAD), was aimed at boosting the livelihood of smallholder farmers and marketers of farm produce, at the local government.

Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Adeola Odedina, Governor Abiodun, at the commissioning in Odeda, said the present administration is poised at helping smallholder farmers and those in agric value-chain businesses, provide more food and in-turn realise maximum profit.

He enumerated other laudable projects completed by the govt through the Federal Government and IFAD to include boreholes, road constructions, input distribution, and linkage with off-takers.

The State Project Coordinator, IFAD, Mr. Samuel Adeogun, implored the farmers to ensure cleanliness of the facilities, as well as surroundings and maintain  hygiene, assuring that their goods could be kept in the lock-up stores. 

Adeogun appreciated the State Governor for releasing counterpart funds, which he noted had spurred IFAD and Federal Government to assist farmers in eight Local Government Areas of the State.

In his welcome address, the Transition Committee Chairman, Odeda Local Government, Alh. Semiu Lawal lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for ensuring food security in the State, through its various agricultural programmes.

He expressed optimism that the infrastructures being commissioned would improve the productivity of farmers, encourage them to leverage on government's aids to improve food production in the State.

In their remarks, the Apex Farmers cluster Chairman, Olugbo,  Chief Odedina Taofeek, and Babalaje Olugbo, Chief Oluraye Alao Yusuf, said Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government has improved farmers' livelihood, through its various agricultural intervention programmes and modern markets, promising to make judicious use of the facilities.

They pleaded for more of the government's assistance such as procurement of tractors for plowing, motorable roads to farms and markets, among others.
