Ogun State Government in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) says it had significantly tackled gender inequality and ensured commodity security to health facilities supported to provide family planning services across the State.
The state revealed it had achieved last mile distribution of Family Planning Commodities to Primary Health facilities providing family planning services which had greatly reduced malnutrition, maternal and child mortalities in the state.
This was contained in the reports submitted by agencies supported by UNFPA which include Primary Health Care Development Board, Gender Equality and Women Empowerment department of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as well as Ministry of Health.
Speaking at the end of the year Coordination programme and Data Review meeting held at Rolak Hotels, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the State, the State Project Coordinator, UNFPA, Mr Banjo Olukayode commended the agencies for their cooperation which has translated to milestone achievements for the state notwithstanding the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Olukayode noted that the state Government with the support of UNFPA have been procure and distribute family planning consumables to service delivery points which has forestalled stipends being collected from clients as the services are now absolutely free at the FP sites.
He also added that through the support of UNFPA the a gender compendium has been created for the state by the department of Gender Equality while it has initiated a 16day activism on the elimination of violence against women, efficiently monitored distribution of sex offenders register in all police divisions across the state to ensure justice among other things.
