The war against insurgency will record more successes, if credible and adequate information are given to men of the armed forces and other security agencies by members of the public.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this assertion, at a Special Church Service, marking the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun, who was represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, said war against insurgency, which requires accurate intelligent report, was quite different from the conventional warfare, hence the need for Nigerians to give the armed forces the needed support.
"I want to use this opportunity to call on Nigerians to give our armed forces intelligent report that will assist them in prosecuting the war on insurgency, which is difficult to fight than conventional war, that is why we must support them", the Governor said.
Prince Abiodun lauded the fallen heroes for paying the supreme price for the continued unity and progress of the nation, appreciating those still living for putting their lives on the line for peace and survival of the country.
"We will continue to recognise the sacrifice of our fallen heroes and their services to the nation, as well as remember the families they left behind and pray that God will console them. For those still living, we say a big thank you for being loyal to the nation", he noted.
The Governor assured that State government would not relent in rendering assistance to the serving and retired men and women of the armed forces, promising to ameliorate the plight of families of those who lost their lives.
He used the occasion to appeal to the people to be mindful of the second wave of COVID-19, by following the laid down protocols, which include, regular hand washing with the use of sanitizer, wearing of face-mask and keeping social distance, saying, the virus was deadlier than the previous one.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Remo Diocese, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Sagamu, Rt. Revd. Bamidele Ibikunle, admonished Nigerians to always think of the nation first rather than selfish interests.
Revd. Ibikunle noted that Nigeria would be a great country, if her citizens shun tribalism, selfishness and live in peace with one another, adding that it was good to engage in dialogue in settling matters rather than war.
The Clergyman appreciated the armed forces and personnel of other security agencies for their services in preserving the peace and unity of the nation, calling for proper insurance cover for service men and women, as well as adequate care for the families of the fallen heroes.
Dignitaries at the church service were, former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, State Chief Judge, Mrs. Monsunmola Dipeolu, Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, former State Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi, Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, representative of the Awujale of Ijebuland , Oba Yinusa Adekoya, Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Mr. Taofeek Oloyede, Service Chiefs, among others.
