Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has disclosed that government will provide alternative accommodation and palliatives to those who were affected in the recent farmers/herders’ clash in Yewa axis of the State.
Prince Abiodun who made this known during the inauguration of a 20-member Ogun State Peace Keeping Committee on the Farmers/Herders’ Conflict, at the Oba's Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said provision of the incentives became necessary due to inconveniences being faced by the affected people.
"In the main time, we will be giving out palliatives, we do not want to wait until the committee seats and make their findings before we give our people on both sides palliatives, I have already instructed the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs to look into how to distribute these palliatives, so, we are not waiting until reports of the committee comes in four weeks’ time.
"I have also instructed the Ministry of Housing that some people have been displaced from their homes right now, we must provide alternative accommodation for them immediately," he said.
Abiodun added that President Buhari was pleased with the model adopted by the State in tackling the conflict, noting that same model had been adopted by the Presidency on similar issues that occurred in the country.
"Yesterday, I had a meeting with the President where I gave detail of what was happening in our State, and l am delighted to say that he was very impressed with the way that we have handled the situation, to the point where he has recommended our model to be adopted in the resolution of such crisis in other parts of the country," he said.
He noted that the Committee after submitting its report, would proceed to become a ‘Standing Committee’, which would be saddled with the additional responsibility of ensuring that similar issues are settled amicably to guide against prolonging and escalating such conflicts.
Governor Abiodun urged the committee to bring on board anyone they feel would positively add value to the findings, saying the assignment should be completed in the next four weeks.
In his remarks, the South West Coordinator of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders, Alhaji Muhammed Kabir promised to work together with other members of the committee, to ensure that peace continues to reign, commending the Governor for the initiative.
On his part, the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite, while appreciating the Governor for the inauguration of the committee, enjoined both parties in the conflict to be aware of their limits, saying such would create harmonious relationship.
The Committee will be chaired by Hon. Kayode Oladele, other members include Hon. Jemili Akingbade, Hon. Aruna Egungbohun, Commissioner for Housing; Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Olaolu Olabimtan, Special Assistant on Inter-Ethnic Relation, Prince Danni Hardi, among others.
