OGSG TAKING STEP TO COMBAT COVID-19 AMONG RURAL DWELLERS

The Ogun State Government has expressed its determination to ensure that rural dwellers have access to adequate potable water supply, to further encourage them on hand washing, a major measure in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and others diseases in rural communities.

The State Commissioner for Rural Development, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun who stated this while featuring on a radio personality programme in Abeokuta, said government has embarked on provision of water to communities across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State, noting that the Ministry would not relent in its sensitisation drive on the importance of water to health, as the virus spread faster when there is no proper hand washing with water and soap.

Oludotun added that, the provision of basic amenities, such as good road network, electricity, water and others, would guarantee improved living for people, particularly in the rural areas.

The Commissioner also said that the Open Defecation Free Road Map initiative of the Ministry, which is in line with the Federal Government's executive order, would fast track the attainment of curbing open defecation by year 2025.

He disclosed that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration has continued to respond to the plight of the rural people through provision of employment, empowerment and other opportunities that would add value to them, owing to the fact that material resources being used in the manufacturing industries are sourced from the rural areas.
