SABO SAGAMU MARKET RECONSTRUCTION: OGSG ASSURES TRADERS OF UNBIASED ALLOCATION

  

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured that the government will give priority to traders at Akarigbo market, Sabo Sagamu whose shops were affected in last year inferno, for allocation of stalls, shops, and warehouse upon completion.


Governor Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, in the company of Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, and Special Adviser to Governor on (Political), Hon. Adeniyi Adeleye made this known at a stakeholders' meeting with traders at the proposed construction site.

He noted that construction work would commence in the market in a couple of weeks, adding that it would be achieved in clusters, with the first cluster comprising of lock-up shops, open stalls, and warehouse, to be delivered in line with the priority list to be drawn in conjunction with the leadership of market association by May 2021.

‘’In the process of reconstructing the market, the State government shall provide employment opportunities for the people, through the engagement of relevant artisans drawn from the immediate locality”, he said.

Contributing, Mrs. Efuwape, implored the traders to remain calm, as arrangements are in top gear to make the market more conducive for trading activities, urging them to continue to pray for the success of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, ESV. Olalekan Lukan, appealed to the traders, seeking their cooperation with the government, to allow a hitch-free process.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Transition Committee, Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Baruwa restated the State government’s readiness in bringing succor to the people, as well as adding value to the economic activities in the area.

Responding on behalf of the traders, the Chairman, Market Committee, Chief Habeeb Olayinka, and a member, Mrs. Idayat Oteju commended the Governor for the support received, urging them to accelerate the construction of the new market, to allow traders to go about their normal businesses.
