Another batch of 18 communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have been provided with Solar Powered Boreholes, by the State Government, to boost water supply at the grassroots.
This brings to 31 communities that have benefitted from such gesture, as it would be recalled that 13 communities in Yewa North Local Government Area had earlier been provided with similar facility.
The benefitting 18 communities in this batch of the project include Idomoaroko, Ilogbo Market, AUD School, Ota, Ajibode, Onajo, Ewuta-Gbe, Okesunna, Panada Osi,Tigbo Ilu, and Onigbongbo, among others.
Speaking at a training organised by the State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN), in collaboration with Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN), for Water Sanitation and Hygiene Committee (WASHCOM) members, drawn from the benefiting communities, Commissioner for Rural Development, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, said the project would address scarcity of potable water being faced by people in rural communities.
Oludotun, represented by the Programme Manager, RUWATSAN, Mr. Sola Ogunbo said it was imperative for the communities to secure the facilities, and avoid vandalisation, so as to serve its intended purpose, noting that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government is committed to meeting the social needs of the people.
His words, “Provision of these worthwhile projects is an attestation to the fulfillment of Prince Dapo Abiodun’s promise to improve the social wellbeing of the people, particularly at the grassroots. I am sure that it will serve these communities better, and you should ensure that it is well maintained.
The Commissioner, while urging the benefitting communities to see the project as theirs, restated the government's commitment to the provision of more social amenities for the citizenry.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator, Society for Water and Sanitation, Mr. Tayo Akinpelu, said his group would continue to stand as intermediary between government and the community, promising that it would continue to monitor the usage of the facility.
Contributing, the Supervisor for Community Affairs and Women Development, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Waliat Ogunbiyi, charged the benefitting communities to serve as watchdog and maintain the projects for their own good.
Responding on behalf of the benefitting communities and other WASHCOM members, Pastor Adebayo Victor, and Mrs. Isadare Serah, commended the State government and RUWATSAN for the gesture, saying it would go a long way in enhancing their wellbeing and ease water challenge, particularly during the dry season.
