$20M INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY ON THE WAY IN OGUN

The Ogun State Government is to establish a $20m Integrated Waste Management Facility in Ogun West Senatorial District, as part of waste management reform of converting waste to wealth.

Speaking to OGIS on the project, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Mr. Ola Oresanya said the modern waste facility would be sited in the outskirts of Ilobi town, along Atan-Ota/Sokoto road, in Yewa South Local Government Area.

Oresanya stated that preliminary work has started on the facility, which would consist of a recycling unit and sorting slab, where plastics, papers and metals would be turned to wealth, adding that it would also convert organic waste to fertilisers for the use of farmers.

The Special Adviser said upon completion, the facility would provide employment opportunities for youths and women in Ilobi and its environs, saying "this facility will lead to huge development of the town, as investors and traders whose businesses are linked to the facility will invest in other sectors, such as infrastructural facilities and township regeneration".
