ABIODUN SEEKS BETTER COLLABORATION ON HEALTH CARE DELIVERY

The need to establish a stronger synergy between Federal and State Governments, in the provision of qualitative and affordable healthcare services to the citizenry has been emphasised.

Prince Abiodun said this when Management Board of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, positing that it was imperative for health institutions of both levels of government to complement each other, for Nigerians to access the required health care services.

"I would expect that our roles should be complementary, as against that which is competitive. I hope that following this meeting, we will begin to see a difference in the relationship that exists between the State and the FMC", he noted.

He said his administration was putting in place a data gathering system in the State’s health sector, with a view of tracking patients and prevalence of different kind of diseases, noting that plans are in top gear to return the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, to its lost glory, while Primary Health Centres are receiving face-lift, to assist secondary and tertiary health facilities.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of FMC Board, Dr. Abdulaziz Mahuta, lauded the Governor for his developmental strides, particularly in the health sector, saying the State was gradually regaining its enviable position in healthcare delivery in the country.

Mahuta, accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Benedict Godson and the Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu, among others, also called for the State’s support in the provision of adequate water supply, electricity and rehabilitation of the Hospital's access road.
