ENGINEERS TASKED ON ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY IN TACKLING INSECURITY

  

Engineers have been tasked to come up with advanced technologies that will assist in finding a lasting solution to lingering insecurity in Nigeria.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who gave this charge in Abeokuta, at the year 2021 World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, with the theme: "Engineering for a Healthy Planet", advocated for more viable investment and support for the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE).

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the Governor noted that the body of Engineers in the country needed to be proactive by improving on the old technological inventions, which could have supported the fight against banditry, kidnapping, insurgency and others.

Abiodun pointed out that various innovations developed by the young minds in the fields of science and technology had always indicated that Nigerian professionals were capable of great inventions that could change the world if given the chance.

 "What our Engineers need is the encouragement, mentoring, direction, conducive environment and the right mind-set towards new inventions, to change our globe for the better. We will continue to collaborate and inspire our professionals and provide them with the requisite policies to practice and contribute their quota towards the continued development of our dear State", he said.

The Governor noted that his administration remained committed to having a robust relationship with professionals, who are major stakeholders in the successful implementation of “Building our Future Together” agenda.

Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Adesanya, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Akeem Adesina reassured Engineers of maximum linkages and support in taking the society to the next level.

 Engr. Akinsanya who noted that the importance of Engineers in the modern-day government and daily lives cannot be over emphasised to pursue a healthy planet, revealed that the State would not have attained an enviable height in Infrastructural development, Agriculture, Industrialisation, Information Communication Technology, among others without the intellectual skill and practical prowess of the engineers.

The Commissioner maintained that the present administration has improved upon inherited Infrastructures across the three Senatorial Districts, with numerous roads reconstructed and rehabilitated, revealing that the development had impacted positively on the economic activities of the citizenry.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman NSE, Abeokuta branch, Engr. Kolawole Olonade said the celebration of the World Engineering day is to re-awaken the consciousness and sensitise the general populace about the roles of engineers, calling on students to embrace science as a course of study.
