Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated that his administration believes that affordable houses remain one of the means of making living more abundant and this is why it is committed to providing 2000 housing units in different parts of the State.
Governor Abiodun who stated this when he inspected a new housing project being undertaken by his government at Kobape, in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, noted that the project was in line with the desire to provide decent houses to the people.
"We are targeting 2000 units which will be history since the creation of the State by any administration. The first phase of this project is 500 units of two and three bedroom expanded units.
"Before we embarked on this project, we did a survey in line with our inclusiveness. We wanted to be sure that the housing we are providing meets the expectation of our people in term of size of the land, building, affordability and the location of the project", Prince Abiodun said.
He said the project which is to be completed between April and May this year, would accommodate all subsectors in the building industry, as unskilled artisans are being employed and trained on site, just as it provides employment to skilled artisans in line with the administration's Youth Employment Scheme.
The Kobape housing project, the Governor posited has affected the ecosystem of the area, as business activities has sprung up in the axis, adding that similar project was ongoing at Ikenne, Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ota and Ilaro.
According to the Governor, " As we replicate this model across the State, it begins to draw us closer to achieving our objective of empowering the people and touching their lives positively. What we are doing here is also going on in Ikenne, Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ota and Ilaro".
The Governor who also inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, said his administration decided to rehabilitate the road which connects the State to the Eastern part of the country, to boost the State’s economy and reduce accidents on the road.
Speaking while inspecting an iconic monument tagged "the Gateway City Gate" at the inter-change, the Governor said on completion, it would be a reception ground for visitors, and serve as a recreation park, adding that it was part of efforts at rebranding the State as multinational companies flock the axis.
