OGSG LIGHTS UP RURAL COMMUNITIES

The Ogun State Government has begun the distribution of Solar Energy Kits, to light up villages without electricity power supply, across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.

Speaking at the flag-off of the project at Atapa Elelubo Ishaga Village, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Commissioner for Rural Development, Engr. Oludotun Taiwo said the initiative would be replicated in other rural communities, in order to bring development to the areas.

Oludotun, represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics in the Ministry, Mr. Adekunle Oyesawen, stated that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led- government decided to use the solar power kit as supplementary electricity in the local communities to ensure that power supply gets to every village across the State.

‘’The reason for the provision of solar power kits is to take the villagers out of darkness and give them the opportunity to use power system especially for bulb and other domestic uses, and importantly reduces carbon gases.

"As you know that the government cannot get to everywhere and this is one of the ways to make sure that our people get light, that is why we are giving this community solar power supply. It is a pilot scheme, we want to see how it works before we replicate it in other Local Government Areas", he added.

The Commissioner urged the villagers to ensure judicious use of the system, in order serve the intended purpose.

Also speaking, the Director Rural Electrification, Engr. Ismail Balogun admonished the beneficiaries to maintain the solar lights, saying it will go a long way in enhancing their livelihood.

Balogun enjoined members of the community to take full charge and protect the facility from theft or damage, and observe its routine maintenance in order to justify the government’s investment in the project.

Speaking on behalf of the 20 beneficiaries, the Baale of Atapa Ishaga, Elder Kolade Simeon and Mrs. Mopelola Sunday appreciated the State government for the gesture, assuring that they would utilise the facility effectively.
