Ogun State Government has said it will deploy and maximise technology in schools, in order to improve performance of teachers and learners, to meet up modern reality in the education sector.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, disclosed this in Abeokuta, while declaring open the Ogun State Teachers' Digital Resource Cloud Project, a stakeholders’ meeting, tagged: "Digital Classroom Resources for Ogun State".
According to Arigbabu, the State is ready to make use of smart board on which animated lesson notes having relevant pictures and other graphic materials would be downloaded for the use of teachers and students, pointing out that this would aid effective teaching and learning process in the schools.
He added that this type of technology is what is being used in several developed countries, and that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration is poised to take the State’s educational system to the next level by empowering all schools technologically.
"As a State, we cannot afford to lag behind technologically, that is why, we will be employing the maximum use of technology in teaching and learning activities in our schools. The intention of the government is to empower all schools technologically to maximise standard of education in the State", Arigbabu said.
In her submission, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, pointed out that the essence of the meeting was to have a clear progression in educational development, review and re-align the academic plan, coordinate digital resources for teachers and students and standardised the lesson plan for under-performing schools amongst others.
Soyombo stressed that the initiative would not only move education forward, but also bring about the need for the use of teaching and learning aids.
In their remarks, the Board Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Evang. Olalekan Ifede and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, said the use of technology would enhance academic activities.
