BUILD RIGHT, AVOID FLOOD PLAINS -OGSG CHARGES RESIDENTS

BUILD RIGHT, AVOID FLOOD PLAINS -OGSG CHARGES RESIDENTS

As rainfall persists, the Ogun State Government has called on Community Development Associations (CDAs) to sensitise residents on the need to build right and follow due processes in order to prevent flooding which can result in loss of lives and property.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya gave the admonition when he led the State government team on an assessment visit to a recent flash flood that occurred in Olorunshogo Community, Ikangba road in Ijebu-Ode.

Oresanya explained that the flash flood has become a perennial happening in the area, because houses in the community were built on wetlands and flood plains, so the flood could not be attributed to the ongoing road projects near the community.

He pledged the State government’s commitment to resolve the erosion menace and charged residents to immediately construct drainage channels in front of their houses, while awaiting the holistic plan to solve the problem permanently.

Responding, the Chairman of the Olorunshogo Development Association, Mr. Abiodun Hassan lauded the State government for its quick response, assuring of his members’ cooperation with government to put an end to flooding in the area.

Other members of the investigation team were the Special Adviser to Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Akeem Adesina and the Chairman of Ijebu -Ode Local Government, Engr Olugbenga Olugbile
