OGSG PARTNERS WORLD BANK TO REVITALISE TECHNICAL COLLEGE
The Ogun State Government has revealed that plans are in top gear with the World Bank through the Ogun State Transformation Economic Projects (OGSTEP), to give a facelift to all the eight Technical and Vocational Colleges in the State for improved skills acquisition.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said this at the 2021 National Conference of Management, Science and Technology with the theme; ‘Building Nigeria through Skills and Innovations’ at the Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Remo North Local Government Area of the State.
Arigbabu explained that government would put in place modern equipment to meet present-day challenges that would subsequently tackle the rise in unemployment, with focus on relevant skills to enable industries source for their services.
"Ogun State has made the policy that our undergraduates must possess a vocational/entrepreneurship certificate during their course of studies, to ensure that they have something to leverage on, in the absence of white collar jobs, and learners in the secondary schools are also captured in this programme", Arigbabu stated.
He noted that the partnership would enable learners in secondary schools and tertiary institutions undergo courses in vocational and entrepreneurial studies to make them self-reliant, expressing optimism that resolutions at the conference would proffer solutions to unemployment.
In his welcome address, the Rector, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Dr. Isaiah Oyeyinka, said the outcome of the conference would expose researchers to innovations and research works that would be beneficial to them and the nation at large.
Presenting the lead paper, a Professor from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade called for the overhauling of the curriculum that would develop justifiable valid assessment framework, with strategic efforts made to address deficiencies, as well as focus on critical areas of the nation’s or global needs and relevance.
