2021 Isese Day; Ogun Traditional Worshippers Frown At State Govt For Not Declaring Public Holiday

2021 Isese Day;  Ogun Traditional Worshippers Frown At State Govt For Not Declaring Public Holiday

The traditional worshippers in Ogun State have expressed grievances over the state government’s failure to declare every August 20  a public holiday to mark “Isese day”.

High Chief Ifagbemini Atanda Baoku (Ifa Tantala) stated this during the 2021 Isese Parapo and International Council for Ifa Religion, Egba district at Oke Abola, Oke Aregba, Abeokuta.

He explained that traditional worshippers deserved to enjoy the same benefits as Christian and Islamic religions.

He added that both have five-day public holidays in a year and traditional worshippers are pleading for a single day out of 365 days in a year.

Speaking on the request of members of the traditional worshippers for the declaration of August 20 as a public holiday for traditional religion adherents, Chief Alamo Ogundele Abere Ifa, Ojubona of Egbaland, Chief Ifakorede  Idowu, Oba Ela of Egbaland and christ Olowookere Bajila of Egba land, said that the request is justifiable, adding that the Ministry would continue to give necessary support to the position of the Association.

Chief Ifaniaki Amosun, Chairman Isese Parapo Egba and the International council of Ifa religion urged the ministry of Culture and tourism to schedule a meeting with the state Governor Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun where members of the traditional worshippers will have an opportunity to present their requests directly to the Governor.

He said the traditional worshippers have been part of the religious body that contributes towards the emergency and success records by this present administration.

Meanwhile, the chairman earlier pleaded with the State Government to graciously approve August 20th as a public holiday the same way practitioners of other religions enjoy public holidays.

He argued that the denial of a single day as a public holiday out of 365 days in a year is not fair to the practitioners, stressing that the request, which has become a yearly debate, should be fast-tracked and accorded due recognition by the state Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun.
