Anxiety in Benue as aggrieved WAEC candidates set college on fire

Anxiety in Benue as aggrieved WAEC candidates set college on fire

Some aggrieved students of Government Secondary School, Tse-Agberagba in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State have set the school ablaze over inability to participate in the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

It was learnt that the incident, which happened on Sunday, led to the destruction of valuable items in the school, including certificates which date back to the 1990s.

A resident of the community who preferred not to be mentioned said that the aggrieved students had registered for the examination but the school was unable to validate the registration with WASSCE.

He said that the school management had issues with the examination body which led to the inability of the students to participate in the exercise.

According to him, the aggrieved students stormed the school in large number on Sunday and set fire on the administrative block before it escalated to other parts of the school.

The council Chairman of Konshisha Local Government Area, James Jirgba, confirmed the incident.

During his on the spot assessment visit to the school, the Chairman condemned the action of the students, saying the perpetrators must be brought to book.

Mr James Jirgba was accompanied by Senior Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Security for zone A, John Poor, SP (rtd).

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Sewuese was unable to take her call as of the time of this report.
