COVID-I9: OGUN STEPS UP SAFETY MEASURES IN TOURISM
Towards ensuring the safety of lives of tourists, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Ogun State, has put in place pro-active measures to curb the spread of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
The measures include reduction of gatherings during festive periods, ensuring the strict adherence to the use of face-mask, procurement of water for handwashing and sanitizers at every stage of rock climbing, body temperature monitoring and proper guiding of tourists by tour guards, as well as sensitising the host communities on the need to stay safe.
Commissioner in the Ministry, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo made this revelation in a chat with OGIS correspondent at the Olumo Tourist Complex, Ikija, Abeokuta.
"Ogun State has been able to conquer the first and second phases of the pandemic, so we have the knowledge base and everything needed to overcome it, hence the Ministry is taking caution because of the third wave of the Delta variant of COVID-19.
‘’We are being pro-active by putting the people, tourists and host communities of the various sites across the State into consideration, we have put up precautionary measures, such as reducing the population of people who come around. We even had to put a temporary stop to the usage of the elevator to avoid clustering of people, while steps are being taken to use this period for its proper servicing and overhauling, as the life of the people is key to this present administration ", he explained.
Taiwo stated that the present administration is ensuring that safety protocols are observed by tourists to the Olumo Tourist Complex and other sites across the State.
The Commissioner recalled that the tourism industry was the worst hit during the pandemic period, saying the online services adopted by the Ministry during the period is increasing the followers on its social media sites.
