Police dismiss sergeant for killing monarch’s relative

Osun State Police Command on Friday dismissed a policeman who allegedly killed a relative of Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Olabomi identified as Saheed Olabomi in Osogbo.

Saheed was shot by Sergeant Adamu Garba on July 27th, 2021 on old Oba road via Oke-Onitea, Osogbo and was in a coma at the intensive care unit of Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for three days before he gave up the ghost.

In a statement issued on Friday, police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola stated that Garba was arrested and subjected to disciplinary action on the order of the Cmmissioner of Police, Mr. Olawale Olokode, shortly after the policeman shot Saheed.

“In the best tradition of transparency and accountability that the outcome of the trial will be brought to the public, the policeman, F/NO.467549 Sergeant Adamu Garba has been tried in the Orderly room in line with the laid down Rules and Regulations of the Nigeria Police Disciplinary procedure. The erring officer has been found guilty of the offence and subsequently dismissed from the Force. The orderly room procedure has been forwarded to Police Force Headquarters, Abuja for necessary action towards prosecution. This, he believes will serve as a deterrent to other Police officers.

“CP Olawale Olokode reiterated that he will never condone any act of indiscipline and unprofessional conduct exhibited by any member(s) of the Nigeria Police under his watch.”

He, therefore, appeals to the members of the public to be law-abiding and be rest assured that justice will prevail.
