Three Police Officers Ran For Their Lives In Kogi, It May Not Have Happened If They Were Well Armed

Three Police Officers Ran For Their Lives In Kogi, It May Not Have Happened If They Were Well Armed

Unknown gunmen from the neighbouring Ekiti State axis are said to have killed two police officers at a checkpoint in Kabba, the headquarters of Kogi State's Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. Three other police officers who managed to flee were injured, as the fleeing robbers shot sporadically to clear the way for their escape. The officers involved were from the newly formed Kabba police B divisional headquarters, according to reports.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred at the Origa checkpoint on the Kabba-Iyara road around 5 p.m. on Monday. When two police officers were flagged down for a routine check, the suspected criminals in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) opened fire on them.

Meanwhile, the robbers were said to be coming from the Ekiti axis and were likely on their way to Abuja via Kabba before the incident.

The bodies of the two police officers were reportedly deposited in the morgue of Kabba's General Hospital, while the injured were reportedly treated at a private hospital. DSP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), could not be reached at the time of filing the report.

It's so sad that two policemen lost their lives in the process, the decision of the other surviving officers to run for their dear lives could be due to the kind of weapons their attackers have. No wonder they say, he who runs away, lives to fight another. May God temper justice with mercy on the souls of the deceased.
