Benue: What pains me most about Akume’s attacks on me – Gov Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has hinted on a major reason he must drag the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume to court for attacking him.

Recall that Senator Akume, during a press conference in Abuja, asked the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Benue following Governor Ortom’s outcry on incessant killings in the state.

The former lawmaker also urged the governor to apologize to President Muhammadu Buhari over criticism of the president’s inability to tackle the security crisis bedeviling the entire nation.

Sequel to Akume’s media parley, Ortom who said he does not want to join issues with the former governor of the state, on Wednesday vowed to seek redress, stressing that Akume must explain the allegations against him.

The governor said he was angered by how Akume abandoned his constituency, stating that majority of those who suffered attacks in Benue due to activities of Fulani herdsmen were his electorates.

According to him, “What pains me is that this is a human being who was elected as Governor of Benue State two times, elected as senator representing the good people of Zone B three times.

“The majority of people who were affected by the activities of the Fulani herdsmen were in his constituency in Zone B. He has decided to abandon us.

“No time has Akume visited an IDP camp in Benue. As a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Akume has not for once condemned the killings”.
