Iganmode day; a reminder of 'Awori' Origin- Olota



Iganmode day has been described as reminder of Awori origin which is an essential component for stimulating communal understanding, love and unity aswell augmenting steady progress, peace and development of the larger community.


Olota of Ota, Oba Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege made this statement while delivering his speech during the grand finale of Iganmode day at Ansar- Ud -Deen Secondary School, Ota.


Oba Adeyemi added that "Odun Omo Iganmode Afeleja" Day, has always been with an improvement on the previous ones saying the theme of this year's event "Culture: A Module For Sustainable Leadership", has helped in the projection of rich cultural values and norms of Otta in particular and Awori in general.


He emphasised that this has ensured the massive socio- cultural and infrastructural development biding sub- ethnic nationality since he was crowned as Olota adding that Aworiland has become a home to  interesting historic and customs of which we are reputed.


"Culture is believed to be a distinctive way of life of a group of people in order to promote cultural heritage which in no doubt enhancing industry and tourism", Olota said.


Commending the present administration in Ogun State under the leadership of Gov. Dapo Abiodun for fixing Osi- Ikola and Navy- Raypower roads at the inception, Olota implored the state government to fix other part of deplorable roads in Ota in order to give a fair share of our contribution to the State economy.


He enjoined both the residents and indigenes to always  be of good conduct, loyal, patriotic and supportive to the Government by paying taxes regularly saying as a people there is need to focus more on creating the necessary conducive atmosphere for businesses to continue to thrive by maintaining peace and shunning social vices.


Speaking, the Chairman, Iganmode Cultural Festival 2021 Central Planning Committee, Aare Ayodele Bankole said over decades, the primary mission is to celebrate our Cultural and ancestral hero, IGANMODE,an irrepressible Awori warrior adding that the theme of this year's event: Culture: A Module for a Sustainable leadership seeks to address and identify the synergy between Cultural heritage and its influence to drive communal and personal efforts at building a Sustainable leadership in our society.


Bankole added that the committee has looked outside the industries in Ota and its environ to seek fund for this year's event  which  has mobilized entire community here in Nigeria and diaspora aswell individuals, families, social clubs and traditional institutions to make their contributions realising 87% of funding for this year's 'Odun Omo Iganmode.

He thanked Ogun State Government  for its support through Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ministry of Health adding for the first time this efforts shall be rewarded  by award of excellence.

According to Hon. Comm. For Culture and Tourism, Ogun State, Dr. Oluwatoyin Emmanuel Taiwo, the concept  of Culture as a module for Sustainable leadership remains an effective instrument in building a good governance structure based on societal values and norms saying  Governor Dapo Abiodun is providing qualitative and sustainable leadership in all ramifications in which all residents in Ogun State benefit from.

He added that we must all work assiduously to achieve Sustainable leadership which has eluded our society for a very long time invariably hindered the expected level of development.
