OGSG INSTALLS FIRST OLOJA-ODAN, AVOWS GOOD GOVERNANCE

In fulfillment of its commitment to bringing good governance to the grassroots through traditional institutions, the Ogun State Government has installed Oba Oyebanji Olowobeshe as the first Oloja of Oja-Odan in Oja-Odan, Yewa North Local Government Area of the State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun while presenting the staff of office to the new Monarch in the town said the installation, which was crucial in the annals of the history of Oja-Odan land, was also a practical demonstration of his administration’s continued commitment to the enhancement of dignity and honour of the chieftaincy institution in Yewaland and Ogun State in general.

"Kabiyesi, by your appointment and installation, you have become a member of Yewa Traditional Council. As entrenched in the ‘Building our Future Together’ agenda, we remain sternly committed to our diverse laudable and people-oriented programmes which are geared towards ensuring equitable development to every part of the State, to continually improve the standard of living of the people", he stated.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, urged Oba Olowobeshe to be accessible, receptive and responsive to his people’s yearnings, pointing out that his appointment was a call to duty, and as such, expected to champion efforts that would enhance peaceful co-existence with other neighbouring towns.

He charged him to be democratic in his dealings and utilise his position as the first King in Oja-Odan and one of the few ancient stools in Yewaland to ensure a conducive environment for credible investors to do business in the area.

“Your reign as an Oba in Yewaland should create and sustain a conducive environment for credible investors to do business in Oja-Odan, in order to justify the mandate and trust reposed in you by the good people of the town”, the Governor said.

Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman in the Local Government, Hon. Gabriel Ogunyomi urged the new Monarch to see his position as that of a father to his subjects, by encouraging the unity of his people, charging him to preserve the customs and traditions of the land and enhance socio-cultural development of the community.

He rejoiced with Oba Olowobeshe and appreciated the endurance and perseverance displayed during the period leading to the selection and appointment of the Monarch.

In his remarks, the Olu and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, HRM, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle congratulated the people of Oja-Odan for the great feat, adding that there is need to first have a king, before they could have the Gazette, which would specify the ruling houses in the community.

Oba Olugbenle enjoined the people to cooperate with the Kabiyesi, in order to bring development which has been delayed in the last twenty years due to chieftaincy tussles.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Olowobeshe appreciated Governor Abiodun and the entire people of Oja-Odan for the confidence reposed on him, calling on all sons and daughters of the area to come together as one indivisible family and join hands in developing the land.
