2023: SDP presidential candidate advocates ‘housewife’ model to solve societal problems

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adebayo Adewole, has advocated use of the ‘housewife’ management model as well as the application of good character and compassion to address Nigeria’s ailing economy as well as insecurity in the land.

Prince Adebayo who spoke last Saturday in Abuja at a workshop organised by the Nigerian Women in Search of Good Governance, noted that successive managers of the country’s economy were akin to “the irresponsible husband who though earns so much but his family lives in abject poverty.”

While promising run the economy
with compassion and good character, he said a responsible government must adopt the housewife’s management skills to enable it manage and care for the society.

Pledging to give women a listening ear if elected, the presidential hopeful said a workable and successful manifesto can be drawn listening to women as they pray in the Churches or Mosques.

He said women’s prayers centre around the ills of the society and household demands caused by poor economy, insecurity, among, others.

“If you want to have a government that works, you fashion it as as a housewife. Women have a great role to play in my government. I will empower families,  failure to empower families is the problem of the society. Women know how to manage and they know how to care.

Adebayo also pledged to play responsible politics that would be free from violence and corruption and also foster unity in the country.

He lamented that Nigeria suffers the consequence of alienating women from governance, adding that women also shun politics because of violence and other horrible things the men do in search of money.

The Nigerian society and Nigerian government don’t look alike, adding that “in the Nigerian society, women run the show and in the Nigerian government, men run the show.

“If you want to know how to draw the manifesto, listen to women praying in Mosques and Churches. What women pray for is what should contain in the manifesto. If we can listen to women we will solve Nigeria’s problems.”

While vowing to keep the country united, Adebayo said, “We will bring unity. The most united people are Nigerian women. The type of association that women belong to cuts across ethnicity. Women are the reason Nigeria is united because they can marry anywhere”.

He however called on the women to desist from mortgaging their consciences by following after those mundane things that make for bad governance.

“If the government must change, the women must change their minds. We must stop following people who are not following our interests. We must stop collecting wrapper to vote. We must stop collecting rice, etc,” he said.

Earlier, the convener, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, said the programme was to interrogate candidates in next year’s elections on what they would offer when elected, saying it was aimed at achieving peace, unity and development.

She lamented that women had been at the receiving end of insecurity.

“When our husbands are kidnapped, we run around to look for money to pay ransom and when we are kidnapped, we are raped and when released, our husbands divorce us and marry new wives,” she said.

She also stated that 60 percent of those who vote during elections were women and youth wondering why they cannot afford hospital bill, cannot go to their farms because of insecurity.
