Alleged organ harvesting: Ekweremadu's trial resumes in UK

Trial of the former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, is scheduled to resume in UK courts on Tuesday for alleged organ harvesting.

Ekweremadu, 60, will stand trial at the Old Bailey on Tuesday morning, accused of bringing a 21-year-old Nigerian for a kidney transplant procedure for his sick daughter.

Following preliminary tests at a north London hospital, the man allegedly raised the alarm after refusing to consent to the procedure.

Charges were filed after the man approached police in a town outside of London, and Ekweremadu and his wife were apprehended in June 2022 at London’s Heathrow airport.

Obinna Obeta, a 50-year-old doctor from south London, was apprehended later.

The trial is scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. (WAT). It was moved up from its original May date.

Under UK modern slavery legislation, the Ekweremadus and the doctor are accused of conspiracy to arrange the travel of another person for the purpose of exploitation.
