Innovation Without Excavation: JMG Enables Full Accessibility at J.K. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History with Shaftless, Energy-Efficient Elevators and Escalators

JMG Limited, Nigeria’s trusted partner in integrated power and mobility solutions, has successfully completed a bespoke vertical transportation project at the J.K. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Lagos.

The Centre required an inclusive elevator and escalator solution to serve a diverse visitor base, including the elderly and handicapped. However, the project faced major architectural constraints as there were no shafts, no pits, and no overhead clearance, both inside and outside the museum.

To meet these challenges, JMG supplied and installed one TKE Velino Escalator, two units of TKE H-Series as H-100 and H-200 Home Elevators, and one TKE Evolution Commercial Elevator.

A standout feature of this project was the use of the TKE H-Series Home Elevator. Its ability to operate without a pre-constructed shaft or pit makes it uniquely suited for projects with architectural limitations. This key design advantage was essential in enabling safe and efficient vertical transport across different parts of the Centre without major structural modifications.

Inside the museum, the H-100 elevator was installed despite the absence of a shaft, pit, and overhead, and operates on a single-phase power supply, contributing to energy efficiency and low operational costs.  Outside the museum, the H-200 was installed in an open area using a waterproof hydraulic system with low power consumption, also without any shaft or pit, and ideal for outdoor, space-restricted locations. These elevators were specifically requested to enhance accessibility for handicapped visitors.

The upgrades have transformed the Centre into a fully inclusive cultural space, where students, tourists, researchers, and handicapped or mobility-challenged individuals alike can explore its heritage exhibits independently.
