Soludo's ANSEC Scores the Conduct of Anambra By-elections Excellent

Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has reviewed the by-elections held in Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North 1 Constituency to replace the departed seat holders.

With over 64 percent of the votes, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won both seats by a landslide. ANSEC adjudged the election as a simulation for the governorship election scheduled to be held on the 8th of November 2025.

This was at the Council's 18th meeting, held on the 18th of August 2025, at the new government house, known as the Light House, Awka, where other strategic matters of state interest were also decided.

According to the State's Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, ANSEC expressed satisfaction to the Police, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and all other security agencies for their professionalism and impartiality, which enabled the Anambra electorate to speak so loudly with their votes.

The victory is seen as the leverage of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's performance-driven popularity in Anambra State and has now set the stage for the gubernatorial election, which many now consider a mere coronation of the well-respected erstwhile Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu's commanding victory in the Anambra South Senatorial District, securing 90,408 votes against the APC's 19,812, represents more than a numerical triumph.

Similarly, Barrister Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe's victory in Onitsha North Constituency 1 with 7,774 votes further consolidates APGA's legislative presence in the State House of Assembly, creating a unified platform for continued development initiatives. These electoral feats go beyond marginal wins squeezed out through political maneuvering to prove decisive mandates that reflect genuine popular support.

In a congratulatory message, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, commended the conduct of the elections, which was free and fair, and also the winners, for their victory.
