Ogun State Government has signed a Financing Partnership Agreement worth over $300m with the World Bank, to fund Ogun Economic Transformation projects.
Prince Abiodun disclosed this during a courtesy visit of the 56th Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN), led by its President, Mrs. Onome Adewuyi, at the Ministry of Finance Conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo said the project when completed would further place the State as one of the fastest growing economy in Nigeria.
“This kind of developmental projects take a lot of rigorous preparation, evaluation and documentation processes. The Hon. Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmed has assented to the financing partnership agreement. The project is one that is centered on economic transformation in the area of enabling business environment, skills and capacity development, agriculture value-chain and public transformation”, he said.
Abiodun appreciated the body of Accountants as one that has displayed high level of transparency and accountability in the discharge of its duties, noting that the Dapo Abiodun-led administration would continue to appoint and employ competent personnel into its workforce.
The State helmsman urged the Institute to further help spread the news of Ogun Economy Transformation and Development agenda, as well as encourage potential investors to join hands in the growth of the State.
On her part, the President of the Institute, Mrs. Onome Adewuyi noted that the visit would enable government, as well as other stakeholders champion ways of sustaining growth and development of the State and the country at large.
Mrs. Adewuyi commended the State government for the progress recorded since assuming office, saying the various infrastructural and socio- economic development programmes would give a new lease of life to the residents.
“In 60 years, it is obvious that we have not appropriately exploited the human and capital resources we are endowed with as a nation. This is a great concern for us at ICAN, as our primary mandate is to act in the interest of the public and collaborate with government, private sector and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for sustainable growth and development”, she said.
The ICAN President submitted that high level of corruption, unemployment rate among youths and gender inequalities, among others were indices undermining the laudable policies, programmes and initiatives of government in the country.
