Towards ensuring that government work is done in line with the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Confidential Secretaries in Ogun State have been urged to equip themselves with more digital knowledge, to remain relevant in office.
The Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun who stated this during a 2-Day workshop organised for Confidential Secretaries in Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs), with the theme, "Managing the New Office System: Post COVID-19 Challenge for Secretaries", asked them to perform their duties in line with the best global practices.
"I need to remind you that, in this post COVID-19 era, more documents are now digitally handled, rather than the old ways of having everything printed on paper. I must state that proficiency in computer usage is very helpful to your cadre, especially in transmitting documents via e-mail, organising zoom meetings, and above all, creating an environment where your duties and assignments can be efficiently executed, in order to achieve overall organisational goal", she said.
Alhaja Ottun assured that the State Government is genuinely committed to the capacity building of its entire workforce, as evident in the fact that Agencies have continued to receive necessary supports and resources, towards effective service delivery.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, said the workshop was essentially organised to build capacity of Confidential Secretaries, especially in the contemporary business world.
Fajounbo said human capital development required their ability and willingness to learn cutting-edge skills, unlearn unproductive principles and re-learn distinctive capability, as well as downplay outdated experimental knowledge.
One of the facilitators from Olabisi Onabanjo University Consult, Dr. Olugbenga Akintola, who delivered the first lecture with the title, "Running a Smart Office and Creating Value", said COVID-19 came with woos and some benefits, such as Smart Office which is now a trend as the new normal of doing things in the workplace, adding that secretaries must improve on their work to become better.
Akintola explained that Smart Office was a high-tech hybrid workplace with a human touch, designed to improve the overall office space, with the best management tools and make employees work smarter, better and faster.
Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mrs. Bolanle Aderibigbe and Ms. Oluwatoyin Akiode, said the knowledge gained would be properly applied.
